101.9 The Keg/Crash Davis - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

Tesla Recording

"Actually I'm up in Sacramento now. I'm producing the new Tesla album that's gonna be coming out next year. Well we're actually recording backstage as well. We've got a whole room set up recording guitars and bass. We're doing drums and vocals this week in Sacramento. We just kick off and it's been really cool. Because even the touring earlier on this year, we've been getting, grabbing stuff. We go backstage for like 45 minutes. Grab some guitars and the next day you do a little bit more. Hotel rooms, buses. I mean it sounds great as well. It's really inspired so I'm really excited that."

Tesla Songwriting

"I'm working with Tesla right now. We're doing this new album and it's so great and again you know the writing is such an important part. We're all writing stuff together. And it's got a slightly different flavour obviously because it's Tesla. I'm just bringing that on board and we all come out of it even more experienced. So yeah I think it's a constant thing again you know going back to someone like Prince. Who would just be totally just getting inspired all the time to write songs. And I think that's the key actually. The cue for inspiration. If someone's around inspiring you."

"I gotta say you know me and Brian Wheat have been doing a lot of stuff. Together when we're recording but even on the tour. I'd have Frank Hannon and Dave Rude, the guitars played from Tesla, stopping me in the hallways going 'Check this out, I've got this great bit'. And this was happening all you know year so far we've been out. And that's very inspiring. All of a sudden you have an idea for a new song or someone's bringing them to you and you turn it into something else."
