Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott appeared on an Irish TV music quiz in 1989 and an episode is available online.

Joe was a captain on the show Number One for possibly two series of the show whilst back home in Dublin after the end of the Hysteria tour.

The quiz featured two teams of three with two guests on either team each week. This episode has been quietly lurking on YouTube since May 2013.

The other show captain was Joe's friend and well known Irish DJ Dave Fanning. It was presented by Today FM DJ Ian Dempsey. Joe also appeared on the show when it was hosted by Gerry Ryan.

Number One was broadcast on RTE TV in Ireland. It ran for five or six years and used a similar format to the popular BBC series Pop Quiz.

Joe's team members on this edition were Fin Higgins and Louis Walsh (now known across the UK for appearing on The X Factor-by those who watch it...). He was celebrating his birthday on the show meaning it possibly aired on 5th August 1989.

Joe is shown sporting a cowboy hat and BURRRN! magazine T-Shirt and as you will see he was quite competitive with Dave. The aim of the show was to get their scores "up" (or down) to Number One.

Joe had appeared as a team member on the show before becoming a captain as seen on the 'Visualize' compilation video (answering the Bill Wyman question as part of Dave's team).

Joe spoke to Dave in December 2015 before the Dublin show and he reminded him about Number One.

Dave later interviewed Def Leppard on the 'Planet Rock Profiles' show in 1995 and 1999. In 2006 Joe appeared on his show 'Talks With Dave Fanning'.

Watch the full 24 minute episode below and find out if Joe's team wins. Also view some photos.

Dave Fanning/RTE Radio 1 - Joe Elliott 3rd December 2015 Interview Quotes

What do you remember about your time on Number One the pop quiz?

"Ah Dave it was phenomenal. I couldn't believe that I got tripped up by the late great George Verne on that last question. Well I don't remember the question but the answer was Yoko Ono because she'd been like - she'd been the carrying joke for two or three weeks when we were filming. And we were tying 21 all or whatever it was and that was you know the question - I don't know what the question was but the answer was Yoko Ono. You knew it and I didn't. I was gutted."

That was around '85 to '90 and around that time Joe when you started you were selling 20 million and then 25 million and knocking Michael Jackson's Thriller off the charts at the same time. I don't know how you had time for any of that.

"Well you know once we'd got the tour out the way I was at home. And when I got offered the opportunity to do that I couldn't turn it down. I mean in your great company, what's a man to do? You know."
