A recap of all things Def Leppard in the year 2016 continuing with the month of August.

Another eventful year for the band is about to end and these updates look back at the major events that took place this year.

In August Joe celebrated his birthday on a break from the 2016 tour.

A tour which resumed in Madison, WI and continued throughout the month with another 15 shows played.

As always August saw a number of anniversaries of past events in the band's history including the release of 'Hysteria', the start of the 1987 tour and Rick's comeback shows in 1986.

1st August 2016 - Def Leppard Singer Joe Elliott Celebrates His 57th Birthday Today - Read More

Joe Elliott celebrated hid 57th birthday whilst on a break from the Summer Tour 2016 after the first leg of the main tour ended in Toronto, ON on 16th July. He never mentioned his birthday but did give another update on the Down 'n' Outz DVD during his weekly radio show.

Joe Elliott quote - "One week before we head out back on the road. It has been a completely mental week this week as well. Been doing some work on a Down 'n' Outz DVD that's coming out later this year."

3rd August 2016 - The Making Of Def Leppard's Hysteria Album (Released 29 Years Ago) - Read More

The 29th anniversary of the release of the band's most successful album 'Hysteria' which has since sold almost 20 million copies around the world.

Steve Clark quote (1989) - "For any positive thing there has to be a negative. If people say it's over-produced, f**k 'em. We just made the album that we wanted to make."

5th August 2016 - 30 Years Ago Rick Allen Plays First Def Leppard Show With One Arm - Read More

The 30th anniversary of Rick Allen's first show back with Def Leppard after his accident in Cork, Ireland. A show played with back up drummer Jeff Rich from Status Quo.

Rick Allen quote (1986) - "I was messing up all the time, but I covered my mistakes pretty well. I'd miss the odd beat here and there."

7th August 2016 - Def Leppard Start 2016 Tour Leg 2 In Madison, WI (Show Report) - Read More

The second leg of the main Summer Tour started in Madison, WI with 17 songs performed including new single 'Man Enough' which kept its place in the set having been debuted in July. The first time the band had played in the city since 2005.

Phil Collen and Debbi Blackwell-Cook take part in the filming of the promo video for Tesla's new single 'Save That Goodness' at a church in Rocklin, CA.

12th August 2016 - Joe Elliott Says Vivian Campbell Is Winning His Health Battle - Read More

Joe gave another update on Vivian's health battle and said his is doing great as he continues his current treatments which allow him to keep touring.

Joe Elliott quote - "He just gets up there and plays with a smile on his face and he seems to be winning the battle."

13th August 2016 - 29 Years Ago Def Leppard Perform Animal On Top Of The Pops (Video) - Read More

29 years since the band's first broadcast appearance on Top Of The Pops in the UK. The first time they were seen on the famous music show performing 'Animal' which had been released in late July.

16th August 2016 - 30 Years Ago Def Leppard/Rick Allen In Triumphant Comeback At Donington - Read More

The 30th anniversary of Rick Allen's big comeback show at Donington Park in England. A homecoming too for the band as they gave a triumphant performance that paved the way for them to finish off the 'Hysteria' album and go on to more major success all over the world and not just in North America.

Rick Allen quote (1992) - "And when Joe introduced me it really, really moved me. I ended up, tears all over the place and that was the first time I thought that maybe I could electrocute myself 'cause I've got all these electronics all over the place - and I'm crying."

22nd August 2016 - 29 Years Ago Def Leppard's Animal At Number 6 In The UK Chart - Read More

The 29th anniversary of the band's first Top Ten single and first ever hit single in the UK. 'Animal' peaked at Number 6 and marked the start of even bigger success for the band as the 'Hysteria' album too the rock world by storm.

Rick Savage quote (1995) - "I got a lot of satisfaction out of that just because it was nice to have a top ten hit in your home country and it was the lead off single from Hysteria and it just set everything up nice you know."

25th August 2016 - Def Leppard Guitarist Vivian Campbell Celebrates 54th Birthday - Read More

Vivian celebrated his 54th birthday while on tour in the USA. Joe led the crowd in singing Happy Birthday to him the night before at a show in Dallas, TX.

Joe Elliott quote - "Not only is it his birthday. It's just good that he's here because you know what's been going on. So I'm just gonna say this. Please make a lot of noise for a very happy and healthy Vivian Campbell."

26th August 2016 - Tesla Mechanical Resonance LIVE! (ft. Phil Collen Song) OUT TODAY - Read More

Tesla's 'Mechanical Resonance LIVE!' album was released worldwide featuring the single 'Save That Goodness' co-written and produced by Phil Collen. The promo video for the song had been posted online a day before.

Fran Hannon quote - "30 years later and the songs on our first album still rock! Making this new live album of Mechanical Resonance was a reminder of the innocence and creative beginnings of Tesla."

27th August 2016 - 29 Years Ago Def Leppard Start Hysteria World Tour In Dublin - Read More

The 29th anniversary of the start of the 'Hysteria' world tour in Dublin, Ireland. The first of 227 dates played throughout the world in 1987/1988.

Joe Elliott quote (September 1987) - "The studio we were recording in, Windmill Lane, they were all down there. All the people you go for a drink with. They all came down. Oh yeah, they are in a band. But it went really well."

29th August 2016 - 29 Years Ago Def Leppard's Hysteria Album Debuts At #1 In The UK - Read More

The 29th anniversary of the 'Hysteria' album entering the UK charts at Number One. The band's first ever Number One album coming off the back of their first UK hit single with 'Animal' earlier in the same month.

Rick Savage quote (September 1987) - "Surprised. Shocked. We're still shocked. We still can't believe it to be quite honest. I mean to go in at Number One is great. But straight into the charts at Number One was just, it's unbelievable."
