Show Intro

"Evening all and welcome to the very Christmassy Joe Elliott show right here on the very Christmassy Planet Rock. Even though for the next sixty minutes there are zero Christmas songs. Just some wonderful crackers. Like this one by Free."

Free

"If you've ever heard my show before at Christmas, you'll have maybe noticed in the background the chatter of people, the pulling of crackers, the clinking of glasses because it often takes place in a pub called The Burglar's Duck. My favourite place in the world. Sadly not open this year. It's being renovated. So Ho Ho, I'm doing the show from Joe's Garage. Hey, it's all the same. The music's wonderful. That was Free from the album Free At Last with Catch A Train."

Cockney Rebel

"This is Cockney Rebel."

"And before that another hit single from a band who certainly weren't Prog but they were probably avant garde. Steve Harley And Cockney Rebel from the album Psychomodo with Mr Soft."

Curved Air

"You can probably count on one finger the number of Prog bands that have had hit singles. If you indeed consider that band we just heard a Prog band. They are Curved Air from their collection Retrospective, the hit single It Happened Today."

Jilted John

"Well along with wrapping Christmas presents and writing out Christmas cards this week, I've also been organising what I like to call my office. Which is essentially just a room full of records and CDs and DVDs and books. And I've been alphabetising my biographies and autobiographies. Right next to Nikki Sixx and Slash is a book called Five Hundred Bus Stops by a guy called John Shuttleworth aka Graham Fellows. Now I went to school with Graham Fellows when I was a little boy and we used to deliver newspapers out of the same Newsagents. His Father developed the first ever photograph taken of Def Leppard and in the late 70s he also had another alias. It was this. It was Jilted John."

"And before that, well I went to school with him, I delivered newspapers with him,. He was Graham Fellows aka John Shuttleworth. There aka Jilted John."

The Clash

"I saw them at the Sheffield Top Rank in 1976 and they were fantastic. They are The Clash with Clash City Rockers right there."

NOTE - The song played was actually 'Complete Control'.

"You are listening to the Joe Elliott show on the very Christmassy Planet Rock. It's time for a little break and when we come back sweet dreams with Roy Buchanan."

Roy Buchanan

And before that Roy Buchanan. Huge big influence on the great Mick Ronson. A fantastic guitarist, doesn't really get played much at all. From his Anthology collection Sweet Dreams we heard the song Black Autumn."

Boston

"Epic. Majestic. Call it what you like. It would be very easy to run out of superlatives for that particular album. One of the best debut albums ever made. That is Boston. The song Foreplay/Long Time."

Alan Parsons Project

"Well Santa came early for me folks this week because there was a knock on the door. There was the postman, couldn't get it through the letterbox. It was a little too big. Opened up the box and there it was. My Alan Parsons Project four CD special edition version of Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. Including a 60 page booklet. The original mix, the 1987 remix. Here's a little snippet for ya."

"And before that Alan Parsons from the Alan Parsons Project Tales Of Mystery And Imagination. The 1987 remix version of (The System Of) Doctor Tarr And Professor Fether."

Jobriath

"A Merry Christmas to all but especially to my lifelong and long suffering friend Andy who heads up the Jobriath appreciation society up there in Sheffield. That from his debut album back in 1973 is Jobriath with a song called Space Clown."

Fanny

"Now this next band we're gonna hear certainly were not the first ever female band but they did kick the door down for the likes of The Runaways and everything that followed. This is Fanny."

"And before that from a compilation called First Time In A Long Time. We heard Fanny with the wonderful Blind Alley."

UFO

"Magnificent stuff they were really starting to get it together on this album. The album is Lights Out from 1977. The band UFO. Th song we just heard Too Hot To Handle."

Show Outro

"And that my friends about it from this festive edition of the Joe Elliott show. I shall be back with you next week god willing at the same time for more festive fun."

"Until then I'm gonna leave you with some classic American hard rock. Get your engines running. From their debut album back in 1973. This is Montrose and Bad Motor Scooter. Until next week see ya!."
