Wednesday, 6th April 2016

Guns N' Roses 2016.

Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen has been interviewed by the Toontrack Podcast and mentioned his recent Guns N' Roses comments.

Phil talked about his band Girl, working with other guitar players, Steve Clark, joining Def Leppard in 1982, Manraze, the new Def Leppard album, Delta Deep/Sea Of Love, working with Mutt Lange, his guitars, recording techniques, producing Tesla, Man Enough, Def Leppard staying together, Guns N' Roses, the last song his listened to (STP), being a producer, music labels, which band he would have been in other than DL and whether he would stop playing guitar.

During the lengthy interview Phil clarified his comments about the Guns N' Roses reunion which were made during this interview in February and then taken out of context by the "so called" rock music news sites (which you will know, if you are intelligent, are all absolute shite...).

Toontrack Podcast - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

Guns N' Roses Reunion Comments

"I actually just got into trouble recently because I got misquoted talking about Guns N' Roses. Of who I think are amazing. I love Guns N' Roses. I think they're an amazing band. I would love to go and see them. And someone said oh you said that they're lame. No, I said it's lame that they broke up in the first place. I don't even think it's lame that they're reforming. I think it's - you know the world needs a Guns N' Roses and it's like well about time."

"I thought it was lame that they broke up when I think they could have enjoyed a little bit more - I know they were having all sorts of problems. So it's easy for me to say but we had worse problems. You know we had someone die. Someone lose an arm. Vivian got cancer and we just soldiered on."

The Current Def Leppard Album

"Funnily enough on this new album. We did do exactly what we want. We actually we didn't worry anything on the new Def Leppard. We just said OK if these songs are out of context with each other guess what we don't care. We're Def Leppard and it really worked well."

Delta Deep Song Used By Def Leppard/Sea Of Love

"My other band Delta Deep. When we was doing the Def Leppard album I wrote a song for Delta Deep that was kind of funk inspired. It was kind of really fast funk kind of - it wasn't bluesy. It was more funk soul kind of hard 70s kind of vibe. Joe and Sav they're like oh what's that demo you're doing. I said it's a new song. They said oh we should do it. So it ends up on the Def Leppard album. Sea Of Love. So that's kind of rare that kind of thing."

Man Enough

"We have this song on the new Def Leppard album called Man Enough. I just woke up one day and I had this bass riff. So I just like recorded it on the iPhone. Sent it over and done a demo. Joe sung something over it and boom you know. A few months later it's out and it's in the charts. It's like wow."
