The Republic - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

And you have a new Def Leppard album coming out as well?

"In October, yeah. That comes out as we finish the tour. So that’s gonna be great. We’re thrilled about that. And that also means that the tour is going to be lengthened considerably."

You said it's the best thing you’ve done since “Hysteria.” How so?

"We didn’t have to do an album. We went in to record a single and came out with 12 songs. It’s the reason you get in a band in the first place. You want to share. You want to write music. You don’t want to be in a situation where you’re working for a corporation and you’re doing filler tracks. I think over the years it kind of develops into that for every artist. We actually did this for real reasons."

"And that’s the first time we’ve done that. There was no other agenda in place. No record company or business thing. It was just us purely wanting to make music."

Stylistically, where would you say this album falls on the Def Leppard spectrum?

It’s diverse. - Every song ended up being its own project. We didn’t worry about it. Some things just sound like Top 40. There’s probably some of the loudest rock guitar we’ve ever done on some songs. We went overboard on some of the backing vocals. We were just creating art and it felt great. That’s why it’s so diverse.
