The Republic - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

And you have a new Def Leppard album coming out as well?

"In October, yeah. That comes out as we finish the tour. So thatís gonna be great. Weíre thrilled about that. And that also means that the tour is going to be lengthened considerably."

You said it's the best thing youíve done since ďHysteria.Ē How so?

"We didnít have to do an album. We went in to record a single and came out with 12 songs. Itís the reason you get in a band in the first place. You want to share. You want to write music. You donít want to be in a situation where youíre working for a corporation and youíre doing filler tracks. I think over the years it kind of develops into that for every artist. We actually did this for real reasons."

"And thatís the first time weíve done that. There was no other agenda in place. No record company or business thing. It was just us purely wanting to make music."

Stylistically, where would you say this album falls on the Def Leppard spectrum?

Itís diverse. - Every song ended up being its own project. We didnít worry about it. Some things just sound like Top 40. Thereís probably some of the loudest rock guitar weíve ever done on some songs. We went overboard on some of the backing vocals. We were just creating art and it felt great. Thatís why itís so diverse.
