Def Leppard 2015.
Def Leppard 2015

Def Leppard revealed the first single from the new self titled studio album called Let's Go earlier on and the lyrics are available.

And a short review based on the first few listens of the song premiered earlier today via rollingstone's website.

Or to out it more accurately a short overview of the song and some initial thoughts.

The first new studio song released by the band since 2011 and the first taster of the "highly anticipated" new album which has now been confirmed for 30th October. And 27th November...

Def Leppard - Let's Go

4:15pm UK time. 15th September 2015.

A tweet pops up from Rolling Stone.com. Following a couple of hints about a new song premiere from various radio stations like Planet Rock.

Link clicked on. What's this?. A standard Joe Elliott interview?. *scroll down*. No. It's the new Def Leppard single called Let's Go.

Do you really, really wanna do this now?

Listen to new Def Leppard?. Yes I do! And so it was...

Four long years on from the last "first single" in the form on "Undefeated".

A song that was one of three tagged on to the end of the Mirrorball (Live & More) album of 2011. That song hinted at the past (Rocket etc...) and tried to marry the past with the present but ultimately something was slightly lacking. As it has been on many of Def Leppard's most recent songs.

All rubbish?. No, far from it but never really reaching the heights of the past. The "classic" sound. The main culprit (at least for me) on recent songs being the use of acoustic drums. It worked on Slang for that type of material but not on "classic" Lep songs.

A case in point being the difference between 'It's All About Believin'' live versus the studio version. The live version was so much better.

So my main hope for this new song and the new material from the self titled DEF LEPPARD album was that Rick would use the drum kit he uses at live concerts.

Set up his live kit in the studio and let the boy play!.

Vivian helpfully confirmed this was the case in a radio interview which got my hopes up of a real return to the classic sound. The sound you hear when you go to see Def Leppard live in concert.

The Thundergod playing live!. Two feet and one arm. The world's best two-footed drummer. No, this isn't the programmed drum sound malarky. It's really Rick Allen playing.

As Vivian put it in April - "He played a Yamaha electronic kit that triggered samples."

The song itself is a rousing Def Leppard anthem. An atmospheric intro starts things off before the song kicks into gear.

Do you really, really wanna do this now?

Yes, yes I do!.

The song (according to Joe) was 80% written by Rick Savage. A fun and UP song that describes their live concerts and the relationship between the band on stage and its audience. An anthem for the 2015 (and 2016) world tour. And a perfect choice for a show opener in December in various UK (and Irish) arenas.

A fist pumping, stadium sized anthem in the style of classics like 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Rock Of Ages'. This has all the hallmarks of the "classic" Leppard sound and it's great to hear!

This isn't a throwback though. It's classic Leppard meets Leppard "now".

Phil plays a very PSSOM-like signature guitar part in the song that is straight off the Hysteria album. Hence his constant mentions of the new album being their best since Hysteria.

Is it?. Hard to tell from one song but it sounds bloody good to me!. Or as I put it earlier on Twitter - "it's f**king awesome!".

Some people talk about what TV shows they're supposedly watching via Twitter. I make exclamations about Def Leppard songs. Actually I don't think I have ever done that before. But then in the time I've been using it there's only been one "first single" released!.

In keeping with recent tradition for Sav songs he manages to squeeze in some Queen like vocals. (and some cool funky bass lines) But fear not! this is not Kings Of The World! (Sorry Sav!).

It's classic Def Leppard and it rocks!. And they even throw in a sneaky kick drum/bass part from PSSOM to boot (da! da!).

Auburn, Washington will be happy to witness the song live tomorrow night. If they play it.

And be more than willing to attend the "carnival", the "party" and get up off the seats, never mind sitting on the edge of them!.

In closing, to borrow a line from the single message on 'Let's Get Rocked' from 1992.

"Play it LOUD!" - Like a Rolling Stone

"Welcome to the carnival
Welcome to the party
Welcome to the edge of your seat

Do you really wanna do this now?"

Yep.

Def Leppard - Let's Go Song Lyrics

Do you really, really wanna do this now?
Do you really, really wanna do this now?

Do you really, really wanna do this now?
Do you really, really wanna do this now?

The heat goes up as the lights go down
The beat goes on when we hit your town

You overload on electric light
There's magic in the air tonight

Welcome to the carnival
Welcome to the party
Welcome to the edge of your seat

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really, wanna do this now

Your heart is beating like a drum
So step right up 'cause your time has come
Gotta stand up gotta get in line
Come take a look it'll blow your mind

Welcome to the carnival
Welcome to the party
Welcome to the edge of your seat

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Do this now!

Magic and wonder will hit you like thunder
The feeling gets stronger so let yourself go!

(Guitar Solo)

Welcome to the carnival
Welcome to the party
Welcome to the edge of your seat

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Let's Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you really wanna do this now?

Let's Go (oh oh oh)
Go (oh oh oh oh, oh oh)
Do you (do you) really (really), wanna do this now?

Note to Auburn, WA concert attendees - You really, really wanna YouTube this now/tomorrow night, don't you?.
