Spanish Radio Plays Def Leppard's All Time High/Song Review

Def Leppard 2015.
Def Leppard 2015

All Time High from Def Leppard's new self titled studio album was aired yesterday on Spanish radio.

Spanish based radio station RTVE played the song during it's one hour rock show El vuelo del Fénix (Flight Of The Phoenix).

The 13th October edition of the show played the new song and aired an interview with Spanish musician Enrique Villareal.

'All Time High' was played at around 11:37mins into the show - which is no longer available as they probably weren't meant to play it yet!.

The DJ talked over the intro and outro but most of the song was heard.

This appears to be the first radio play any song outside of 'Let's Go' has received.

Now as for the song itself...All Time High sums up how you will feel if you want to hear an uptempo and very rocking Lep song.

Def Leppard - All Time High Song Review

Well almost one month on from hearing 'Let's Go' via a twitter link to Rolling Stone, I have just listened to 'All Time High'. And once again due to a link on twitter courtesy of a very cool Spanish fan. Gracias!

The fan in question having just heard last night's show themselves.

'All Time High' is song #8 on the new self titled Def Leppard studio album due for release on 30th October.

Is it any good?. Well, quite simply YES. It is very good indeed and it is even joyous!. A brilliant and uptempo rock track.

This is as good a rock track as the band have released in quite some time. A riff heavy song that moves at a quick pace and has a very uplifting feel about it.

You might say it's a rockier version of 'Hallucinate' from the last album - and LOUDER!.

Opening lines:

"You asked me to be your saviour
But I'm a poster boy for bad behaviour".

A loud and aggressive guitar style and pounding drums from Rick Allen. Unlike 'Let's Go' the drums are a little more acoustic sounding. In fact this definitely has a 'Retro-Active' feel about it. Not that far removed from the sound of 'Action'. A good thing? Oh yes!.

So a very good rock track. And then - the chorus kicks in and it moves up another gear. Just a brilliant chorus - classic Leppard vocal harmonies.

"I'm on an All Time High!
Never giving up, never giving up
Never gonna die."

And coming out of the chorus some cool heavy riffing before going into the next verse.

If you liked 'Let's Go' but hoped to hear a more basic rocking song with a faster pace - this is the song for you and from the descriptions of other songs so far it's not the only one.

The pace slows just a little with a cool section leading into the guitar solo by Phil as Joe screams.

"And I will not go quietly!
No I will not go quietly!"

And Phil plays a very cool fast solo. It's easy to see why he recently said some people have commented on how good his solos are. They may just have been talking about this one.

Vivian plays some great riffs alongside the solo. This might just be the best rock song the band have released since 'Euphoria'. And "possibly" since 'Retro-Active' which to me is still the best album after 'Hysteria'.

The long solo turns quite melodic by it's end and then boom - it's back into that awesome chorus.

There's a little nod to 'Promises' at the end of the song as Joe's voice goes HIGH. And when I say HIGH I mean nuts-in-vice high. It sounds a little strange at first but doesn't take anything away from how good the song is!

At this point the song starts to fade and the Spanish DJ talks over the very end but you get to hear most of the song.

It would appear if anyone thought Let's Go summed up the sound of this album they were mistaken. There will be plenty more on offer and to get very excited by.

Now if you'll excuse I'm going to listen to the song again and am DEF-initely on an ALL TIME HIGH!

Mind blown? Yeah why not!.

Adios Amigos!
