An Elvis Presley album is set to enter at Number One.

The last studio album 'Songs From The Sparkle Lounge' entered the UK album chart at Number 10 on 17th May 2008. The last Top Ten album before this was the 'Best Of' in November 2004 which reached Number 6.

He says the new album is currently sold out at his Record Collector shop. He also talks about Joe being one of his first customers in 1978 and selling the Def Leppard EP.

Official UK Charts - News Quote

"Sheffield rockers Def Leppard look set to score their first UK Top 10 album in over seven years with their new eponymous release, which starts today at Number 5."

BBC Radio Sheffield - Interview Quotes

DJ - "Great news if you're a Def Leppard fan. Sheffield rockers Def Leppard on track to secure the first top ten album in seven years. Their latest release is currently at Number Five with the imaginatively called Def Leppard. Well Barry Everard can recall the band's early days. He was and still is the owner of the Record Collector shop in Broomhill. Which opened around the same time as Def Leppard's first gig."

Barry - "Well, I've known the band for 37 years since I first opened this shop in 1978. Joe was one of my very first customers and because of that I have a real connection with the band. I'm really pleased and slightly surprised that they've gone in so high. But that shows the resilience of their fanbase here and also makes me suspect that there's a few American ex pats living in this country and maybe a few tourists who are buying over here because their main fanbase by far is in America."

DJ - "Have you managed to catch any of the new album?."

Barry - "We have had it in but we were surprised by the interest as in we're temporaily sold out I'm afraid."

DJ - "Wow. Now of course you were talking there that you knew Joe Elliott right at the beginning long before they'd actually got a record deal. How did it all come about then?."

Barry - "Well I opened the store Record Collector in Broomhill in July 1978. I tell you one of my first customers was Joe Elliott because at the time he was the senior member of Def Leppard. They'd only just formed the year before and I guess he came looking to pick my brains really. For a little bit of advice and so we used to talk a lot about whether he should send a cassette to the record company. And I said well why don't you put a record out because it shows that you've got a local following. And it's not necessarily thanks to me but maybe a little bit that they did and then that record went on to sell a thousand copies and we sold more copies than anyone else in the world of that which was 150. And as a result of that they got signed by a major record company and became at one point arguably the biggest band in the world."

DJ - "Have you still got a copy of that original EP?."

Barry - "I sure have. I mean Joe gave me a signed copy himself. One of the ironies is of selling 150 copies of that EP is that the little story that goes with it. That when I sold my 150 Joe came in the shop and said Barry you've done really well. He said what do you want for those 150 copies you sold and I said we don't need to make any money out of local bands. You know just take the money and out it into equipment or whatever. And he said to me- he said cheers Barry, you're a star. And after a short reflection he tell you what here's five pounds go buy yourself a drink. Now each of those original EPs are now worth about 300 quid if you every try and sell one up on eBay. So that's 45 thousand pounds worth of EPs and I got a fiver."

"but that's Rock and Roll. I promise there's no bitterness in it whatsoever. It's just one of those funny things."

DJ - "What do you think it is about Def Leppard that they've turned around and said we're not gonna be a retro band we're currently doing lots of new stuff. Lots of new material. What is it that keeps them going do you think?."

Barry - "What keeps bands going?. Ambition. Enjoyment. I spose even a bit of ego and habit with a lot of bands. You know you look at bands like the Rolling Stones for instance and you think why are they still doing it at that age?. But it keeps them young. It's what they've always done. I think it's the buzz isn't it. It's the lure of the greasepaint. It's the lights. it's the crowd. It's the adulation. It's the noise. It's - you know I can't think of a better place to be if that's what you love."
