Def Leppard's ex producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange has produced the new Muse album Drones and they have spoken about him in various interviews.

Singer Matt Bellamy recently talked to Rolling Stone and says the band's management team (ex-Lep managers Q-Prime - Cliff Burnstein/Peter Mensch) suggested they work with Mutt on their new album and that they were initially not sure.

Matt described him as being like a "guru". Listen to the first two tracks released from the album below.

In another recent German interview (translated by Muse France) he said Mutt encouraged him to play guitar solos again on their new material.

Joe Elliott told That Metal Show in February he thought the mix of Muse/Mutt was "weird".

Watch a teaser video of Mutt/Muse in the studio posted back in February.

Rolling Stone - Matt Bellamy Interview Quotes

"He's a very eccentric person, very laid back," says Bellamy. "He has the air of a person that has not lived in the constraints of normal society or life for a very long time. You feel like you're in the presence of some sort of guru or spiritual outsider."

Much to their surprise, Lange was incredibly enthused about the project. "I figured that Mutt Lange would be more focused on, 'What's the single? What's going to be the big hit?,'" the singer says. "He wasn't like that at all. He was totally into the concept. He is the kind of person to get into the mind of the artist and whatever the artist wants."

Working With Mutt Lange

Yes! And it's also a dream! We've always been big fans of his work. He is a visionary, a man who uses many new technologies to create timeless good music. And that, for the biggest rock bands! He is behind "Back in Black" by AC / DC, one of the greatest rock albums of all time and a song of my teen years. They had not dared to contact him before because it was something different from ours. We are more in alternative while it is more "in tune with the times."

What Mutt think your phrase "guitar solos are not cool"?

"(Laughs) He told me about it the first time I met him! He wanted to know if I really meant and how I could think of that! I simply told her that I was not very comfortable with it and that all groups with whom I grew up (except AC / DC) think the same. He disagreed and challenged me to try several times while we recorded the album. I did not want at first, then I tried and it's fun actually. I'm afraid of being cured of this phrase now."
