Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen was interviewed by 99.5 The Mountain radio and talked about Windmill Lane Studios.

Phil talked about touring with Tesla in 1987/1988, 2015 studio album, Delta Deep, the Hysteria On The High Seas Cruise, his autobiography, Steve Clark, his guitars, Windmill Lane Studios and some trivia questions about Def Leppard at the end.

As mentioned on 9th April the iconic studios were demolished with only the "U2 walls" saved.

Read some extracts from the interview below. Also shown is a photo of Phil and Steve in the studios in 1985/1986 whilst working on 'Hysteria'.

Listen to the full 14 minute interview below conducted by Lep fan Ken Tomczak. Also view new photos of the demolished building.

99.5 The Mountain - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

Windmill Lane Studios Demolition

"I actually got - what I was really pissed off about was we heard that that studio had been sold and - for like no money at all it actually went in - it's like for 300 grand for a studio in the heart of Dublin like you know right in the centre (I thought) it would have gone for way more than that. And I think they want to use it for apartments and had we known the band would have definitely bought it. You know we all said you know we would've all chipped in and just got it and that would've been our kind of base if you like. Our kind of spiritual Def Leppard base would've been in - it's in Stephen's Green in Dublin right in the centre. Right near Grafton Street for anyone who's ever been to Dublin. Yeah we would have got there in a heartbeat."

"So yeah that was pretty tragic. So in that case I did get nostalgic because I spent many an hour in there with the guys and with Mutt. You know there'd be one string story always stands out. You know people go oh we heard that you recorded Hysteria one string at a time. No but there was a certain section on the song Hysteria where me and Mutt were doing - we were sitting in there just doing one string at a time. Like so that each note sounded - not like a keyboard but not like a guitar. And a friend of mine who was a guitar player came in and went 'what you doing? why are you recording like that?' You know it was like ding, ding, ding... So that's how the kind of myth or the legend got started but we didn't do the whole album but we did do a certain section like that. That was quite funny . So yeah that was in Windmill II and lots more stories as well."
