99.5 The Mountain - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

2015 Studio Album/Best In 23 Years according to Vivian?

"Yeah I think I said that first actually. I think I was the first one to say it you know it definitely (is). I think you know we went in to do a single or an EP. So there was no real pressure or anything. There was no record label or like executive, no one else telling us whatever. We actually came out with 12 songs which blew our minds. We said well I guess we better do an album then. So we'll leave this EP nonsense behind and just finish off these tracks."

"And they're so diverse. You know that was the thing we didn't kind of stop ourselves. Normally we'd have said 'Oh this album has to be this style' and we'd give ourselves a briefing before we do a record. It's gonna sound a certain way. With this one each song was almost like a you know like a project by project basis. You know one song is its own entity and you didn't have to worry about the rest of the album. Or we didn't and I think that was the way to go."

"It was like - just reminded me of the Stones and Zeppelin and Otis Redding. Back in the day you know people would write a song, they'd go in and record it and then they'd just release it. I think that's the way to go as opposed to going 'Well we got one we gotta like write 11 more' type thing you know and full it up. So no, it was very exciting and it shows when you hear this stuff. It's got a real vibe and an energy to it."

"The album's done pretty much but like I said there's the odd little lick here and there and stuff so it should be ready for Fall (Autumn) for sure."
