The Killer Instinct

Black Star Riders have again mentioned Def Leppard getting new record deal in an interview for their new album The Killer Instinct.

In a recent interview with Hot Press guitarist Scott Gorham had mentioned "a brand new record deal".

He has now spoken more about this with Classic Rock Magazine. Scott says the band were a bit 'cheesed off' by Joe not being able to produce the album. He also says Def Leppard - "got the first record deal they've had in years.".

Given that Joe pulled out of producing the album back in August 2014 it doesn't quite fit into what has been said this year by Joe.

Joe first mentioned the band were receiving offers to release the new album in a February interview with Billboard. This has been repeated in recent radio interviews where he's said they are still weighing up the offers.

Recording work on the album was completed last week as mentioned by Joe on his Planet Rock radio show.

Joe attended the 2nd March show by Europe/Black Star Riders in Dublin.

Classic Rock Magazine - Interview Quotes

"We said, 'That sounds great.' We've all been friends with Joe for decades and we knew it would be a kick-ass situation."

"What happened is, the guy's band - you may have heard of them - got the first record deal they've had in years. The company threw a boatload of cash at them and told them they needed a release by such-and-such a date. They needed to record in our timeframe."

Hot Press - Interview Quote

"When Joe found out we were going to do a second album he came to us to say he'd love to produce," says Scott. "But not long afterwards Def Leppard got a brand new record deal and I think with Vivian being ill and all that, they needed to get the album done so there was a schedule clash. There were no hard feelings though. We still send each other Christmas cards!"
