Terrie Carr - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

2015 Studio Album

"It's really, really good. Actually you know - I've been with the band 23 years, I am the new guy. I've been telling everyone. In the 23 years I've been with Def Leppard this is the best record we've made. That's the good news, the bad news is I haven't actually had a lot to do with it. So that's kind of scary you know. They're probably better off without me."

"You know I was dealing with some health stuff over the last couple of years. So I was there at the start of the record when we started last February in Dublin. And I've missed a couple of the middle sessions and then I was just in Dublin a few weeks ago finishing up. And it really only started to come together, to my ears - in this last session, really in the last six weeks. And it's really a diverse record but it's a really, really strong record. We've got good rock elements. We've got psychedelic elements. We've got the pop element. We just - we touched a lot of bases but it's a very comprehensive and very strong sounding record."

"As to when it's gonna come out I really don't know. We didn't quite get it finished in time. It's still not done. Joe has a few more lead vocals to finish up but you know the rest of us are done with our bits and it's gotta be mixed and mastered and whatnot. So as a package it's not gonna be really ready in time for this upcoming tour. So it'll come out sometime in 2015 I just don't know when. Probably when it does a track will be going to radio and we will be ready to play that and throw it into the live show. There's no point in playing it prior to it being release."

The Setlist

"Well Rick Savage - Sav, our bass player. He's the resident set guru. Although we do all discuss it but Sav gets very analytical about it. He starts thinking about well this song's in this key. This song's at this tempo. This one was a hit here, this one was a hit there. You know whereas the rest of us I don't think give it as much thought. But we do actually discuss it as a band. But usually Sav is the one who goes and sits in the corner and comes up with a scientific reason as to why we should or shouldn't play a particular song."

"Yeah we are very fortunate that we have a lot of hits. But at the same time it's kind of a bit of a burden because we have to play those hits. You know it's kind of expected when you're doing a major concert that you have to play the major hits. And I know that some hardcore Def Leppard fans have an issue with that. They wanna hear more obscure stuff and we'd certainly love to play something more obscure. But we have to cater to the majority and then there's a time issue. When you're touring with other bands. You know it's not An Evening With Def Leppard. So we have to kind of shoehorn X amount of songs into X amount of space."

"But we do try to make every tour a little bit different. You know we've discussed different album cuts that we could throw in on this upcoming tour to make it a little bit different you know. You could certainly guess on 85 percent of the setlist. As to what it's gonna be."
