Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott had to pullout of producing the second album by Black Star Riders last year and the band have commented on this in a new interview.

Ricky Warwick revealed Joe would no longer be producing the new 'The Killer Instinct' album in August 2014.

The album is released on 23rd February. Joe played the first single which is also the title track on his 27th December Planet Rock show.

Ricky and Damon of the band have spoken about Joe having to pull out in a new interview with Swedish site Rock Sverige.

It was announced in January 2014 that Joe would be producing the album in October with Lep co-producer Ronan McHugh.

Joe also had to pull out of producing the second of Ricky's solo albums having already completed the first, 'Hearts on Trees', earlier in 2014.

Rock Sverige - Interview Quotes

Did you want to slap him?

Damon - "I think maybe Ricky did a little, because he and Joe are best mates and Ricky had told us; "Holy shit this is gonna be great! Joe wants to do our record." So, knowing A, their relationship and B, Ricky's enthusiasm about it, it was like "Alright, sounds good. Let's go!" The initial reaction was just that we were disappointed. Joe Elliott knows a thing or two about great songs and about making great rock records."

Ricky Warwick - "Joe was genuinely gutted though. He was really concerned about how we felt and that was very obvious. He couldn't apologize enough, but we understand. If it had been us, we'd done the same thing. You've got to look after your band and if Def Leppard's your gig, come on! But it was one of those things where you just pick yourself up and go "Ok, what do we do now?"."
