Def Leppard singer Joe Elliott received an award on behalf of the band at the Kerrang! Awards in June 1994 and video footage is available.

This was the first ever awards show put on by the magazine and titled "The Kerrang! Great British Heavy Metal Music Awards". The show took place on 13th June 1994 in London.

Queen guitarist and band friend Brian May presented him with the Best British Band award. And as noted in his speech its one of the few times they had actually won an award at the time.

Joe flew in from Spain to attend as the band had just started the 'Slang' album sessions there in May. The clip was broadcast by MTV News and Headbanger's Ball. It features Joe's full speech and a short interview.

Watch the full video below as posted by Bille. Nice to see it again as it's one of the clips I accidentally taped over in the late 90s...

Best British Band 1994 Kerrang! Awards - Joe Elliott Acceptance Speech

"Uh thank you very much."

"Totally unexpected. Been around a long time - this is the first thing we've ever won. I'd just like to say it's good to see so many people that are involved in Heavy Metal, rock, whatever you want to call it. And some of us - Ozzy (Osbourne) and Glenn (Tipton) looking better than people half your age."

"It's great - really appreciate it. I really don't know what to say. Thanks to the readers of course."
