98.7 The Gater - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

Delta Deep Album/Tour

"I'm also promoting my other album Delta Deep which is extreme blues. Sounds like blues on steroids. The new album should be coming out probably April or May."

"Don't need to because half the band - our lead singer Debbie Blackwell-Cook you know she's got gospel roots. She' actually from New York but she's been singing since she was two in the church and everything. So she's got the whole gospel thing down she's 62 now and she's amazing. And Forrest Robinson who's the drummer. He's from Memphis. You know and he's played with everyone from - he done all the hip-hop sessions in the 90's and early 2000's. Plus he played with The Crusaders you know the classic jazz band. But he really - he plays the drums like John Bonham. And it's crazy so you know everyone that we've played it to is saying it reminds them of Zeppelin but with Tina Turner or Aretha Franklin singing. So if you can imagine that that's what it sounds like. Zeppelin I and II with Aretha and Tina doing lead vocals on it."

"We're just loving the way that sounds and we're gonna be touring it. In the gaps where Def Leppard has a break we'll be out there doing some clubs and theatres and stuff."

Album Release

"We hope April - it's probably gonna be May. And also you know Robert Deleo from Stone Temple Pilots. He's the bass player in the band and we've gotta get all our schedules you know fixed up so we can actually do the dates so that all works out. But the band sounds ridiculous. I mean it's kind of, if you can imagine, I don't know, Rage Against The Machine playing blues. It's crazy. It's really good."
