Def Leppard's ex producer Robert John 'Mutt' Lange is featured in a new teaser video for the Muse album Drones.

The new in studio video clip posted on instagram features Mutt talking to singer Matt Bellamy as they record.

To give you an idea of how rare it is to hear or see Mutt. This is the first time he's spoken publicly - in 26 years - since the August 1989 'Rock Of Ages - The Def Leppard Story' documentary shown by the BBC (screenshot shown above). That interview footage being the only known interview Mutt had ever given.

Since then only a handful of photos have surfaced online taken by paparrazi during his marriage to Shania Twain.

A second recent teaser clip is shown below which includes Matt playing a rather cool heavy riff. The album title was revealed on 26th January also via instagram.

Apart from Mutt producing the album there are a couple of other Leppard connections. Recently video director Matt Mahurin revealed he is doing the artwork and design for this album. Matt directed 1992's 'Stand Up (Kick Love Into Motion)' and 1996's 'All I Want Is Everything' promo videos. He spoke about this in an online blog posting revealing that (ex-Lep management team) Q-Prime put him in touch with the band.

Muse started recording the album on 3rd October 2014 and later announced Mutt as producer using an old AC/DC session photo from the early 80s.

This will be the band's seventh studio album following on from 2012's 'The 2nd Law' which was championed by Joe on his Planet Rock radio show. He also attended their 3rd November 2012 show in Dublin.

Rick Allen spoke about working with Mutt during an interview last month.

Matt Mahurin - Online Blog Quotes

"I have begun working on the next album for the band MUSE.

I will be doing the photography, illustration, and designing of the package. I will also be doing some motion work that will support the still images."

"Contacted by the band's management, Q-Prime, which I've worked with a lot during several Metallica music videos."
