Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell was recently interview by an Allentown newspaper and discussed the new self titled album.

Vivian talked about his current health situation, the 2015 Def Leppard self titled studio album, playing in Allentown and DIO/Last In Line.

The Morning Call website also uploaded a story recalling the band's previous appearances in Allentown and "soccer" games against the local radio station WZZO dating back to 1983.

Vivian says the new single should be announced and released in the new two weeks or so.

The Morning Call - Vivian Campbell Interview Quotes

You guys are preparing a new album. What can you tell me about it?

“Um, yeah, the single’s going to go to radio sometime in September – probably early September, so it will come out really soon. The album, I believe it’s slated for release sometime in October, probably late October.

“It’s a 14-track album. We’re long, long overdue. We haven’t had a new studio album since 2008. So we’re sorry about that – we’ve been very remiss in getting a new product out. But it’s actually a really, really strong record. It’s a really diverse record – it covers all the different styles that Def Leppard has touched on through the band’s long career. It also goes to a couple of places that we’ve never been to. We have a psychedelic song.”

“We’ve never done anything like that. But I mean it still sounds unmistakably like Def Leppard. Everything that we do has that. The Def Leppard vocal sound, the production element that has become the band’s sound. It also has the rock element that was the first element that we touched on when we started making the record.

“And being the new guy in the band for 23 years, I can honestly say that this is probably the strongest record that we’ve made in those 23 years. Ironically, I haven’t had an awful lot to do with it. It’s a strong, strong record and the band’s very excited about it.”

Why now?

“But we decided, once we got in there and started doing it, I guess collectively the creative juices were flowing, so the decision was made to continue to make a full album and not just an album of 10 songs, but actually put 14 on. So, you know, maybe that’s because we felt bad because of it being so long – I don’t really know.

“We started doing the rock thing because we’re a very dynamic band when we play live, but when we work in the studio, we don’t always record live. We in fact almost always do it bit by bit – one at a time. We actually haven’t actually cut anything live in the studio since ’96 and the ‘Slang’ album. So that was the first thing we did – we set up in the room where we’re all playing in the one room and playing in real time and we can actually make eye contact with each other.

“So we did that to get that sense of dynamic that we have when we play live. And that happened really, really quick. That was the easy part of the record – to cover the rock element of it. And then it becomes more complicated, ‘cause then you’re starting to think about diversity and like, ‘OK, now we’ve got the genre covered, now we need more … We start thinking more about songs, you know? And that when it becomes writing to order."

You are not playing any of the new songs on tour?

“No. But when the new track goes to radio next month, we’ll play it on the third leg of that tour, which starts around the middle of September.”
