Kaedy Kiely - Joe Elliott Interview Quotes

The Art Of McCartney Song Hi Hi Hi

"Well the guy putting the album together, a guy called Ralph Sall asked us a couple of years ago if we'd be willing to participate in this McCartney tribute record. Now we were like the first ones to say yes almost and say what songs are still available. The ones that we wanted to do were there. And I know that there's a lot of political fallout with these kind of records where certain artists go well If I don't get this song I'm not doing it. And then the people are trading off for months to get people to come round. We said, Def Leppard that is, we want Helen Wheels. We want it and nobody else had gone for it so we wasn't like oh well we need Live And Let Die. No we'll take Helen Wheels."

"Then I got a phone call about a month later from the same guy saying McCartney's band. Which I know because when I see McCartney in concert I know Abe Laboriel the drummer and Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson the guitar players quite well. I'm in their inner sanctum for a glass of wine before they go in you know. And I got a message back saying they'd really love to do a song with me singing and I'm like you're kidding me. So I said yeah fine which one? and they went Hi Hi Hi - Oh my other favourite McCartney song. So I got both sides of the coin it was a two headed coin that one it was great."
