Red Carpet Crash - Phil Collen Interview Quotes

2015 Studio Album

"That's been a surprise as well. We're really slow at - historically you know it's like a year or something before you get five songs. We went in to record maybe an EP or or a couple - a single even. And we came out with 12 songs and that 12 has grown to 15 now and we said OK we've got an album on our hands. So that'll be out next year. We're really excited about that as well it sounds very different. It's right across the board certainly for Def Leppard. You know it's extreme rock, it's got some of our great songwriting stuff in it so I'm very pleased how that's turning out. So yeah that'll be out next year and we're gonna tour it so we'll probably do a world tour with that one."

Band Write Songs Together?

"Someone comes in with one idea and if they get stuck someone else finishes it off or it inspires something else or someone comes in with a totally finished song and all the above. So - actually even Rick Allen came in with a really cool song and Joe finished some lyrics off to it and that sounds great as well. So that's a very different dynamic for us cause Rick has never written songs before. So I think we're going through a very creative period in the band where everyone's come up with these different ideas."

"You know it's ironic that the record industry has kind of you know in its death throes if you like or it's definitely changed and it's not as important to have albums out any more but you know we wasn't gonna stop the inspiration or the flow so we just went with it and that alone has been exciting. It's always been part of the reward of being a musician.. We were never really interested in the fame or the money we're really more interested in making this great music. So this totally goes along with that kind of theory if you like or that concept which is we're actually getting to do what we want. And you know everyone will go well you don't really need to make an album but we want to. We actually want to. We've got all this stuff and it sounds so exciting so we're gonna go with it."

"We've got the album next year and we'll definitely be all over the place with that."
