The Def Leppard Pour Some Sugar On Me vs One Direction's Midnight Memories debate was featured on BBC 1's The One Show last night.

After a short feature on music copyright and the case of George Harrison's My Sweet Lord' vs Ronnie Mack's 'He's So Fine' the band were briefly mentioned.

Guest presenter Gyles Brandreth brought up the similarity between the One Direction song and PSSOM with a brief snippet of both being played.

As the piece ended fellow guests Kylie Minogue and Will.i.am sang part of the song in the background. View some screenshots and a transcript below. The Lep part starts at 20:41mins into the 30 minute show.

The One Show - 6th January 2014 Quotes

Gyles - "I listened to another of my favourite One Direction tracks Midnight Memories. (Clip played)."

Gyles - "Now back in the 1980s you won't be surprised to know that Def Leppard. They were my style gurus. I modelled my look then on them. And therefore I'm very familiar with Pour Some Sugar On Me listen to that one."

Presenter - "And what would you be saying with this?"

Gyles - "Well I'm not saying anything except isn't it interesting how down the decades the memory lingers on and sort of intriguing tunes seem to come back at us. And there is actually a word for this it's a phenomenon and the word is cryptomnesia."
