Def Leppard won Favourite Heavy Metal Artist at the 1989 American Music Awards and a video of the presentation is available.
Kiss bassist/singer Gene Simmons presented the award category and accepted on behalf of the band who were in Holland at the time.
They also won Best Heavy Metal album at the same show. These two awards remain their only wins at any US awards ceremonies. Watch the clip below.
