News - Vivian Campbell Talks About Being Fired From DIO

Monday, 23rd January 2012 |

Vivian Campbell Sheffield 2008.

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell was interviewed by Share My Guitar in 2011 and talked openly about getting fired from DIO.

This interview was not noticed at the time (June 2011) and was done to promote the 'Mirrorball (Live & More)' album. Vivian was asked briefly about Thin Lizzy and this album before the interview dealt with DIO.

This is one of the first times Vivian has gone into so much open detail about his firing from DIO which happened in early 1986 during the 'Sacred Heart' tour. In other words Vivian tells his side of the story.

The fact that this interview was found two days after he played 'Rainbow In The Dark' live for the first time since this tour is purely coincidence!. Vivian's last show with DIO was 12th January 1986 in Honolulu, Hawaii at the NBC Arena.

SMG (Share My Guitar) Interview - Vivian Campbell Interview Quote

Why did you get fired?

"When we first got together, Ronnie promised us that by the third album there would be an equitable split for the band. Everyone would be an equal guy in terms of merchandise and record sales. We got none of that. Jimmy Bain (Bass) and Vinnie Appice (Drums) and myself were all salaried players. We earned less than our road crew. I just felt it was wrong."
