Leppard and Heart deliver classic rock By Nick Milligan

It was not only a night to indulge in some classic Def Leppard anthems, but also a chance to see Heart in Australia for the very first time.

This visit by the band, which still includes pin-up rockstars Ann and Nancy Wilson, demonstrated that they are still a world class, stadium band.

Renditions of their hits Magic Man and Crazy On You showed that Ann Wilson still has her distinctive and powerful rock voice and Nancy remains an immensely talented rock guitarist.

An acoustic version of their power ballad Alone brought the house down and proved to be the highlight of the entire evening.

Their cover of You're The Voice was well received and they topped off their set with a monstrous performance of Barracuda.

Def Leppard appeared on stage behind a wall of riffs and hard rock.

With fists pumping in the air, the crowd at Newcastle Entertainment Centre sang along to tunes such as Let's Get Rocked, Love Bites, Rocket, Armageddon It, Make Love Like A Man, Hysteria and Photograph.

An acoustic interlude saw the band play Two Steps Behind and Bringin' On The Heartbreak.

Then they followed it up with their cover of the David Essex hit Rock On.

For the finale Leppard brought out Pour Some Sugar On Me and Rock Of Ages.

Sounding as massive as ever, Def Leppard performed their back catalogue with as much sheen and virile strength as they did thirty years ago.

By The Maitland Mercury 2011.
