Brisbane, QLD - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Ian

Thank you def leppard and thank you brisvegas. we might not have blown the roof off, but we put a crack in it. My brother and I had seats in section 13B - door 4, second row. the crowd was fantastic. I am thoroughly impressed with the crowd response and I wouldn't make that up for the sake of it. I filmed enough of it on my camera because the crowd was awesome. we were up everytime a band member was looking our way and through sugar and lets get rocked. i swear joe looked at me several times while I was up screaming (though my bro swears Joe was looking at him). while I would think it would be good if more people in seats stood up more to show enthusiasm, you buy a seated ticket for a reason and they paid $150 for their ticket like I did - so that makes them a devoted fan in my book - even if they express it by singing along to the songs sitting down. And no one tapped us on the shoulder asking us to sit down. And I look at as if I had a general admission ticket I may well end up with a 2m giant standing in front of me, so that's why we opted for seats.

On the promotion side I agree with above comments that it was average with some radio ads and sbs and posters. I don't recall any prime time ads. I remember seeing it in the free mx paper first. (mind you tix went on sale day before I got married - busy times).

The leps were fantastic. was impressed with the alvatrons and cheap trick, but leppard were in another class. i have been smiling all day thinking about great that concert was. they sounded fantastic, looked good and the crowd lapped them up and the leps lapped us up in return. I think they did hang around longer soaking up the adoration. And so they should. i don't think they were expecting that reception and it was a better concert than 1992. (I will say I managed by chance and then good planning to see them in Italy in june 2006 at the gods of metal festival , but that's another story).

I am just stoked it was such a great show - better than iron maiden in February this year which I was impressed with. Joe worked the stage well and my perception is they were bowled over by the noise levels generated. I may have already said that - but I am still excited for me, for leppard and that there were so many leppard fans out that I didn't know existed. Like Joe said - ít doesn't get any better than this. I read he said that in Melbourne too. But that's because the Melbourne crowd raised the roof as well and their gig was sold out.

Highlights - everything but exceptional moments are - rocket as the first track, crowd response and participation in cmon cmon, the end of make love like a man (though it was the same in 92, and when I saw them in 06, - but it works with joe holding the end note for ages), heartbreak, switch 625 (perhaps the best moment), crowd noise levels through Armageddon it which I thought were really loud, sugar (of course - and wasn't everyone up for that song? They are on my video of part of the song), rock of ages and - 5 band members and thousands of fans having a good time.

And - as I screamed to the leppard boys when everyone was going crazy at the end of the gig. DEF LEPPARD FOREVER!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks for the best show ever. Simply brilliant.

Thanks to the Lep boys for another fine gig and i somehow deep down knew they wouldn't disappoint.

I attended the gig with my mate whom both of us were at the last gig back in Brisbane in 92 on the Adrenalize tour as cheeky 15yr olds who had to get dropped off by my dad after I won 2 tickets tickets off B105 and this was our first gig we were allowed to go to. When my old man picked us up they had 'lets get rocked' on the radio after the concert and he went 'gheez bloody def leppard, aren't you sick of that bloody song' - ahh dad what a classic line.

Now 31 and having grown up with the Leps knowing every word I and can kind of understand the 15yr olds these days singing along to My Chem Rom or Fall out boy. I just somehow doubt these new bands will be around in 25 years like the Leps. I was really really surprised by the crowd, nearly full at boondal is pretty good as i was expecting half but i'm amazed that brisbane has plenty loyal fans even though some people around our section only started to stand up toward the end and paid 150 to sit still and not sing along - weird.

Overall this was a great setlist which heaps of people would have loved jammed pack full of hits. There weren't the same theatrics compared to the awesome 92 'in the round' shows and the crowd section sing along competition with 'rock of ages' when joe did which part of the crowd could sing louder than the other. The boys are looking like they are enjoy playin as much as ever.

Best parts - Songs like make love like a man - whilst cringe worthly now - I was singing along like a schoolkid! Vivs solo at the end of love bites - he could have kept going for another 10 minutes and this man is underrated and phil's got good competition. Joe has still got the moves to rev up a crowd - love the twirl and jesus pose is a classic still 20 years on! Sav's sudden sprints across stage - he still does them! Acoustic version of two steps and heartbreak then into electric - always great. The end of the gig where boondall gave the leps a massive farewell - it just went on and on and on - I've seen plenty of gigs at boondall and that cheering just kept going! Who knows when we will see the leps back in brisbane - maybe I'll just have to chase them round the world.
