Toronto, ON - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Phil Kemp (UK)

This was 10th Leppard show and was arguably the BEST I've ever seen. I travelled all the way from the midlands to this show to see them and made a holiday out of my trip. The guys looked and sounded fantastic, and the setlist was great, but I wish it would have been longer! Kim Mitchell opened and went down very well, and the audience were up dancing and singing along. I really enjoyed his perfomance, but still don't know why Styx didn't perform.

After his set, Lep's crew set the stage and then AC/DC's "For Those About To Rock" thundered through the PA and then it stopped and a new intro came on for the band to start the show. From this moment the audience went CRAZY and didn't stop all night!!! "Rocket" opened and it worked well and the band were alive and full of energy, I still think there are much better openers, but they made "Rocket" work. "Animal" sounded great and the crowd were in full voice on the chorus, it was nice to see this song nearer the opening of the show. Then came "Excitable", one of the shows hightlights. The audience were clapping along to Rick's bass drum, and this song sounded AMAZING!!! It was great to hear something else apart from the standards off "Hysteria". "Foolin'" was next and as usual sounded really cool and got the audience rocking. Then came "Mirror Mirror" which was even better than "Excitable". Joe's voice sounded phenominal on this track, and Phil and Viv's guitar harmony part was incredible. They next launched into a raunchy performance of "Hit and Run" which sounded great and the audience were still going crazy and were singing along.

The band slowed it down with "Love Bites" which the crowd went wild for. The lighters were out and the bands lighting rig was well used for this song, lots of cool colours were used. After Sav's bass solo came "Rock On" which most people around me knew, but everyone was rocking to they heavy part at the end. As I had front row tickets at the Thrust part of the stage, I was particulary excited for the "unplugged" part of the set. Some people around me got high 5's off Joe, I tried but didn't succeed. "Two Steps Behind" had the crowd in full voice on the chorus again and the bands backing vocals which are always amazing, sounded really cool on this one. Then came "BOTH" which was really awesome in this new format. When the acoustic part was done, the crowd sang the chorus, and Joe was clearly overwhelmed by the volume of it. The electric bit was amazing and Viv nailed the solo perfectly, and then they went into "Switch 625". I love this song, and it was fmy avourite part of the show. To have Phil and Viv that close to me playing it was unbelivable! The screen was well used on this song and the cool shades of the lights were very cool indeed.

"Hysteria" mellowed the audience out, and the band played it really well. This was the start of the greatest hits run. "Armageddon It", "Photograph" and "Sugar" all sounded great and the audience went mental for these songs. The screen was again well used, especially on "Photograph" which featured some great pics of Steve.

When they went off the place wents nuts, and when they played "Rock Of Ages" as the encore the crowd again showed how loud they could get. I took a big union jack flag and threw to Joe after "ROA" and he put around his neck, and wore it off stage. The audience were extremely loud right until the house lights came back on.

A phenominal show overall! The band were on top form and the setlist was great, although it needed to be much longer!!! Great stage and lights, so now they should bring this over to the UK!!!!!! Im hoping the "Sparkle Lounge" tour comes to the UK, with this kind of production. This show was well worth travelling a few thousand miles for, but im still hoping for a proper WORLD TOUR by them next year!

Great band, Great show, and here's a GREAT IDEA...Come Home guys!!! Rock On.

Also Kim Mitchell was the opening act and still is a great hard-rocking show playing a lot of their classics(some Ted Nugent era) and some new songs from album released on July 17th. They were also great (and ticket only $30cdn bargoooooooon).
