San Antonio/Selma, TX - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Stefanie

My first show of the 2007 tour, and how brilliant it was - Wow! I love this band (like that's news to anyone!)

Great seats! 4th row in front of Phil and not far from the runway. I had fun during Foreigner and Styx, too, they were fun to watch!

The PA blasting "For Those About To Rock.." was cool. It's the new "We Will Rock You", and now I get pumped every time I hear it. When the band came onstage, I really did not know what to think or feel.... excited, nervous, kind of both, so I, um, started crying. I mean, it wasn't my first time seeing them live or anything, so, I don't know what came over me, I think I was just very happy. DL do that to me!

Rocket opening - loved it! Excitable, Mirror Mirror, Another Hit and Run, Two Steps Behind, Switch 625 - I was thrilled to bits to hear them this tour!! I liked that the guy next to me knew all the words to DL's songs, it's always nice to have another die-hard fan to sing along with! :)

Fan Review - By Are You Def

We got there pretty earlier, not expecting much before ILAA. At around 4:10, we heard mic checks going on...again, didn't expect to hear anything serious...then Def Lep broke out and played 4 songs for soundcheck: Let It Rock, Hysteria, Rocket (up to the drum/solo part), and part of Two Steps Behind. We heard the audio very well from the corner of the outside gate and that VIP lounge they have on I guess the far north side....we could see the roof around stage right, but that was it.

ILAA was pretty good...more people were there than I thought would show. They had 35 paid tickets, but we only saw about 25 people there. The lady from ILAA was very kind and gave a lot of info. about the band and how the tour was going. Giveaways were pretty good...there were fewer items, but all were DL related only (wife was GIVEN one of the gifts by another winner...if that person is on this form, please let me know, we can't thank you enough). Saw Phil doing the photo shoot...those pics of Phil were the best ones we took, he was all over the place at the show.

Got front row/stage right, right at the corner of the run-way...Foreigner opened to a less-than-half-full crowd, so they paid a lot of attention to the fewer earlier folks up front. I preferred there set over Styx, but that's mainly because I prefer that band...even if hardly no one from the original band was there...set was exactly 50 minutes, and really, Foreigner was the surprise band of the event...they really kicked ass! Styx...good show, but very short, barely 45 minutes and maybe 6-7 songs (??).

Security was pretty tight, worse than other venues...before the DL set, a lot of folks suddenly appeared in our area up front, for which they were summarily sent back. I don't blame them for trying, but we paid a lot of money for those seats, so I had no sympathy for them...honestly, the venue allowed it to happen, because they had a 5 foot gap between the barriers and the seats in the corners near the runway. That wasn't the case in Dallas, which did a better job in that regard. However, I don't think it was fair to not allow folks the chance to be right up next to the runway...sure it was higher, but security enforced a 1 foot distance all around that runway...that really put folks with seats right next the runway at a disadvantage. Besides, all that extra security didn't do any good, what with that lady running up onto the stage near the end of the show.

DL show started about halfway through "For Those About To Rock" on the PA, which is a perfect lead up song IMO...great show as always, felt like Viv, Sav, and Joe were practically performing just for us where we sat...so I can definitely say ILAA was worth it this time, makes up for other shows where we ended up further back. Don't need to go over the set, you all know that. Joe and everyone really made good use of the runway, something I heard a lot of people said wasn't the case early in the tour...not this time, Joe was out on it half the damn show. Whole band went out on the runway stage, played Two Steps there, then started Bringing on the Heartbreak acoustically before going full-out electric and going back to the main stage. Good change-up on the song there...

I'm not seeing complaints about the length of the show, and I couldn't agree more...it seemed a little longer than 2006...and they played a few more old songs, which was a nice reward to the old schoolers in the crowd.

I was very surprised that Viv got an intro by Joe while no one else in the band did...not even Rick Allen, which is a departure from all of the other shows I've seen...but then again, I always feel Viv doesn't get his props sometimes.

Lighting was much better at this show...I actually got to use the standard photo modes on my camera this time, and not the low-light ones that make it hard to get good pics for enlargements...so that's a plus for 2007. As for the arguments for or against the runway...eh, it was nice for most of the crowd, but kinda lame if you were right up front because you had to keep looking back into the spot light. The runway was better where we sat in Dallas, which was on stage left, 4 rows back, just 2 seats away from the runway.

Got an acknowledgement from Rick Allen again at this show...he heard us yelling "Raven" at the end and gave us the thumbs up...not sure if he remembered us specifically from other RDF events, but it's still the thought that counts. Wife got to touch Sav from our area too...that was a major event for her, a perfect finale for a great show. All and all, a very good show, one of the best yet for us.
