Las Vegas, NV - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Ross

Same setlist as Denver from August 16th show. I've seen many many Lep shows this was my first this year. The Leps put on a good performance as always but it wasn't their best, as a long time fan I am probably more critical than a casual fan so they were still better than most bands. The opening Let's Get Rocked seemed off, Let It Go was much tighter. I was in the 4th row the sound was very muddy it was for Journey also. I thought Joe was tired, he didn't work the crowd as much as usual and his voice was strained by the time they got to Photograph.

The best performed songs were Rock On and Rocket. They really enjoy doing Rock On I'm sure it's nice to do something newer. I too wish they would mix up the set - I am getting tired of the same songs, I was going to go to more concerts this tour but this was enough for me I am getting bored with this total greatest hits set. What happened to Rock Rock, Stagefright, Too late For Love, Hit and Run, High and Dry, Switch 625, Slang, etc. - 20th Century Boy off Yeah was on the VH1 show how come they dropped that as an opener? Try out Hangin' On the Telephone I'll bet that would go over huge - I could go on and on it would be nice if they could throw in at least one surprise a set especially for those fans who support them by going to multiple shows a year. I look forward to the next tour when I hope they return to a 2-hour set.

I last saw Lep at Mandalay in December 2002 with Ricky Warwick. Mandalay is a great venue and not a bad seat in the house. The common theme thus far on the tour seems to be disappointment with regard to the set list. Again the set played this time around was the same as it has been. I was disappointed not to have heard 20th Century Boy but overall still very much enjoyed the show.

I agree with Ross that there was a sound problem during Let's Get Rocked but did seem to correct itself during Let It Go. The bands energy did seem a little off at times but really picked up during Rock On which they all seemed to enjoy doing. For me Rock On was by far the best performance of the night and the one I was most looking forward to. I had a bet with my wife on how long it would be before Phil and Viv had their shirts off and not to my surprise Phil came out shirtless right from the start and only got "dressed" for Rock On. My wife was very complimentary of Sav's appearance and energy. By far, the Thunder God got the biggest pop of the night from the crowd.

The venue was sold out at 10,000 and I was really surprised at the mix of people aging from 6 to 60. While I saw mostly Lep shirts in the crowd, Journey seemed to have the best crowd reaction and involvement. They did a fantastic show and had a great sound. Jeff Scott Soto was on lead vocals and I was blown away by his performance. For a guy that is 41 years old, he had the energy of a 16 year old. You could tell that the rest of the Journey guys really enjoyed playing with him. I would have to say out of the entire night Faithfully got the biggest pop of any song played, Lep and Journey. Definitely a terrific idea teaming up these two rock icons! I think Stoll Vaughn put it best when he said you're about to see the best concert of the summer he was right!

Ok, here's the important details (before I give you the setlist, lol). The starting ensemble was: Joe in black pants & a black tee Sav all in white w/his Union Jack bass ;-) Viv had on a tan jacket, couldn't see a shirt ;-) Rick had on a Red RDF tee & shorts Phil, um, no shirt & jeans (what a shock, lol)

During Rock On, Joe added a jacket Viv had on a black shirt (he later put the tan jacket over it) Sav & Rick stayed with what they had started with, AND..... Phil put ON a shirt!!! Yes, you heard me, he was actually covered up! Ok, the shirt was gone as soon as Rock On was over, but still, he did cover up, lol

The guys were full of energy, running up & down the metal stairs to the upper part of the stage & the ones surrounding Rick. Everyone sounded & looked amazing! I just wish the show was longer (well, they could play for 5 hours & I'd still want a longer show though, LOL). Here's the setlist: (see above)

A long night to be sure, but worth EVERY minute of it! And just think, I've got 2 more to go! Also noteworthy; Jeff Scott Soto was outstanding with Journey, really impressed me! And, my friend & I (and 2 other gals) had Metro PD called on us by the venue's security, cuz we were near the busses! Oh yes, we made a serious threat to the safety & security of the guys, LMAO! Oh well, there's always next time!.

I'm home and we had such a good time. The show was incredible :D They were so tight, and so much fun to watch. They were more playful I think than any other time I've ever seen them. My perspective visually was different this time since I wasn't standing in front of the stage, I was at the side of the stage about 15 rows up at stage front so I was looking down on them from the side.

I have to say something about Journey. I have loved them since I was in college, from the first time I heard Infinity. Their music is beautiful on albums. But they were so loud that I had to cover my ears to be able to discern what songs they were singing. And I really was looking forward to seeing them. Their bass was set so high that my ears couldn't take it. I really like their new singer, but I feel that he was screaming too much. I would have loved them so much if they had their sound set just a bit lower. At first I thought that I was getting too old for concerts :(

I was afraid that Sav would have his bass set too high, and then I'd have to close my ears again. But thankfully their sound was just perfect :D I should have known that it would be. Also, Joe doesn't scream. He sings at a lower range. Also, during Photograph when he sings "You've gone straight to my head" he held out the last note the entire way to the end and I loved that! He still has so much strength. I don't remember the set list but I know that Darren will post it. I loved hearing Promises, No Matter What, they started the set with Let's Get Rocked which I think was perfect since they come on stage after "We Will Rock You." Joe asks "Do you wanna get rocked?" It was great :D Sav's solo was very dramatic, and then he took in all of the audience love before going into the intro of Rock On which was fantastic. When the guitars kick in, Joe absolutely comes to life and rocks out across the stage with his micstand. When Sav came to each of the "mini ramps" on either side of the stage, he smiled ALOT and did lots of bang lifts. He ran around a lot during the show.
