Detroit/Clarkston, MI - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Barry

First of all, when my wife and I were driving to the show, there was a block of live recordings from Journey on. The singer on the recordings (Steve Augeri) sounded terrible in my opinion. I was preparing myself for the worst - since they had a replacement for Steve Augeri, who had replaced Steve Perry.

As soon as they jumped into their set, my concerns were quickly put to rest by a near flawless set. Jeff Soto sounded like Steve Perry did in his prime. They had spectacular stage presence and a great set of songs. They were the perfect complement to the headliner.

Def Leppard came on after Queen's We Will Rock You. The timing between their songs was flawless. Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell shared their guitar work and their solos were also dead on balls accurate.

The only complaint I have from the entire night, was that the volume of DL's set seemed a little quiet. I am not sure if it was just me, but I was expecting a lot louder - especially after they had the preview video of their amps cranked to 11. Overall the night could not have been much better, and I can't wait to see them again.

A totally sold out show. Over 15000 people poured into DTE for what promised to be a night of great music. They were not let down. Journey surprised me, playing a lot of songs from "Escape". Both singers sounded great and the crowd response was overwhelming. But, it was obvious that the sold out crowd was there to see the pride of Sheffield.

Expecting them to open with "Let's Get Rocked", I was overjoyed to hear "Hellraiser" start the show. (Which then took out "Promises") Aside from that switch, the set list remained the same as it had the previous show. The energy level of the band was incredible. From the time they began up until the very end.

Joe never sounded better, his voice was right on. Phil and Vivian play so well off one another. Sav's solo was a highlight for an underrated musician and after 20 years, it is still amazing to watch Ricky play. A cute (if you want to call something Def Leppard does cute)moment was Joe kicking around a ball on stage, showing off his soccer skills, then went to kick it into the crowd and hit Phil in the leg. It was one of the best Def Leppard shows I have seen. (And I have seen a lot) I am anxiously awaiting for them to return to Michigan for I will be there. Rock On Guys!!.

It was a hot night in Clarkston last night! Hot temps, hot crowd, and hot rock from some very HOT BRITS!! We got our tickets through ILAA, and I was not very happy with our seats. For almost $200 I only had row 13. I have been much closer than that for less money. I hope the seats through the fan club are better. We got there early and heard part of Journey’s sound check. As we were standing by the gates waiting to get in we saw Rick go by on a golf cart and he waved to everyone. Once we actually got in and were standing by the pavilion we ran into Malvin. He said hello and seemed to be in good spirits.

Journey started off the show with an awesome rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner played by Neal Schon. He is a very talented guitarist. Journey’s set was good, but they weren’t who we were there to see.

Leppard started off their set with Hell Raiser! I was so happy to hear that one live. It is a great opening number, in my opinion. They need to play more of the new songs i! n concert, so everyone will see how great they are and buy the new cd. The rest of the set list was the same as previous shows. It would be nice if they would throw in a few surprises here and there. I really liked the new stage set up, with the stairs and walkways. The guys all use it very well. The big video screens were awesome too, although my eyes were usually glued to the stage. The weather was very warm, but at least there was no rain for this sold out show. It was so hot last night that Phil never bothered with a shirt at all. It seemed to be over in the blink of an eye. A 90 minute show just isn’t enough. I long for the days before these co-headlining tours when they played for 2 hours. Please come back soon guys, I miss you already!.

Saw them at DTE….my 15th Leppard show and as always they great, actually both they and Journey were great. I do however have the same question on DL's volume. For some reason they were much lower then Journey. I thought it was because Joe's voice was bothering him but it didn't sound like it and he sang some of the more harder vocals (i.e. screaming on Let It Go, Bringing on the Heartbreak and Foolin) so I am not sure. The new singer for Journey sounded pretty good…however no one can replace Steve Perry's voice….sorry it just isn't going to happen. The setlist for both bands was very good.
