San Antonio/Selma, TX - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Brandon

Def Leppard came on stage at 9pm with the intro of We Will Rock You blaring out of the speakers, they began the show with Action and then Let's Get Rocked. They thanked the crowd for coming out since the show had had originally been intended for Beaumont, TX. but due to the hurricane had to be rescheduled in San Antonio.

They launched into Let it Go and Foolin' with the video screen showing pictures of the band through out its career including Steve Clark and Pete Willis. The next song was Hysteria and then Promises and the cover No Matter What with Joe letting the audience know they would be back next summer when the Yeah! CD is released. Next came Love bites and Slang.

They performed at an incredible pace and Joe's voice was in great form as they did Armageddon It. Joe then recalled the first time they were here in San Antonio describing as he was a 20 yr old virgin and how they opened for the Scorpions and that it was the first time they had women chasing them from the backstage to the bus, of course saying how they slowed down so they could be caught and launched into Women. the next song was Rock On which Joe sang the 1st half of the song by himself and a taped drum loop with the rest of the band joining in on the 2nd half of the song. Next they performed an extended version of Rocket with Phil and Vivian trading off solo's in the middle of the song. Photograph was the next song which got the standing room only crowd even louder and Animal followed with Rock of Ages being the final song.

They returned for 2 encores Bringin' On The Heartbreak and Pour Some Sugar On Me. The entire set lasted 1hr and forty minutes.

What a night! The weather was perfect for Joe's vocals. Strong & clear, except when he talked about a 20 yr old virgin? Missed that! The crowd was singing & dancing fuelling the guys on! The people were very polite as well, on our best behavior & security was lax, not overbearing allowing us fans to get close. We drove over 3 hrs to see them & it was worth every moment even getting home @ 3:15am & going to work. I experienced a most intimate moment w/Joe, will in my opinion @ least, I was stage right & he said "What a cool hat" (my costume Willy Wonka) so of course a threw it to him & he wore it while performing "No Matter What". Very special for me. Most excellent evening. I regret that I only got to hear "Mysterioso" by Ricky but I was able to get a pic of Viv & Ricky on stage.

Cheap Trick started off a little slow w/a couple songs I didn't recognize & of course played "I Want You To Want Me" while I was in the loo. Didn't stop me from singing! After a brief intermission the Lepps hit the stage & rocked us out till 11:30 pm. Even though this was getting to the last leg of the US tour, it sounded as if this was their 1st show. Yes, it was that good. Top notch performers. Thanks to Joe, Sav, Rick, Phil & Viv, can't wait to see you again but next tour try to get a little closer to Houston.
