Pittsburgh, PA, USA - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By Shyleppard

The Def Leppard show at Petersen Event Center here in Pittsburgh kicked off at approximately 7:45 p.m. with Ricky Warwick as the opening act. Ricky did a great job and I believe went down well with the crowd. Great job Ricky and much success to you.

Next of course were the band we had waited so long for. Def Leppard appeared full of energy and ready to entertain the crowd and succeeded admirably. It took a few of the fans a bit to get going but once they started the house rocked all night. Sitting was unheard of with this crowd as I'm sure with others. This being my first time ever seeing a DL show I was truly astounded. Joe did a fabulous performance despite the fact he had recently injured his arm in a soccer game. The vocals were the best and you could hear each member with acute clarity & the music proving they are as good now if not better than ever. No one in the arena was slighted. They made sure of that.

The energy level was extremely high on the stage tonight. You were overwhelmed by the heart and soul of 5 men who truly love what they do. They made us feel as if they were there solely for us instead of the other way around. The best response was probably with the introduction of Rick "The Thundergod" Allen. The fans went totally ballistic. One fan couldn't resist throwing her bra on stage to Joe which he promptly hung on Viv's microphone stand. He later asked if she wanted it back seeing as he had no use for it and when she replied no he suggested he could maybe use it as earmuffs.

During the songs from the new album "X" you could tell a few in the crowd were hearing them for the first time but they went over well. Young and old alike enjoyed the show as there was an 11 yr old boy next to us rocking with the best of us. At the end of the show Joe assured us he would be back by saying "We'll come back to Pittsburgh anytime you want us to", and of course we do. He and Sav both reiterated the fact the crowd was in their terms F**king awesome. We try.

Outside the arena after the show they guys were very willing to meet and talk with their fans, sign autographs and answer questions. They were there about 45 minutes to an hour. Joe wasn't able to sign as his arm was in a sling but he too talked with the crowd. Sav didnt stay outside but did acknoledge his fans with a "Hi guys" when we called to him. Malvin was also there to talk with a few of us. I personally managed to get Rick, Viv and Phil to sign my "X" shirt, a picture with Viv and talk to each one. Hopefully pictures I have taken at the show will soon follow.

We were sorry to see them leave but they left the fans of Pittsburgh feeling a great deal of appreciation, love and affection I've never witnessed by any other band. They will be returning (according to a certain Leppard) on July 26, 2003 to appear at the Rolling Rock Festival at Heinz Field. I for one will definitely be there for another dose of Def Leppard. I'd like to thank the members of Def Leppard for giving us a spectacular show and welcome them back often. You're music and general enthusiasm toward the people of Pittsburgh will be long lived. I'd also like to thank Darren for giving me the opportunity to share my experience of the show with all of you. Love and Blessings to all.

Fan Review - By Michael

I've waited 4 years for the opportunity to see Def Leppard live. And during those 4 years, my "fanhood" has grown to monstrous proportions. As I'm sure most readers can relate, 4 years is an eternity when waiting for a tour, but with Def Leppard, it's not totally out of the ordinary to have to *wait* for such a thing.

The show began with Ricky Warwick, who, despite criticism from certain fans, had me very impressed. With his guitar, and his powerful voice, he really impressed me. Admittingly, two Warwicks are better than one! And it wasn't long before the crowd was cheering as Viv entered the stage for a song with Ricky.

My adrenaline surged as the band ran on stage playing "Let It Go". Much to the surprise of some "High'n'Dry" fans, they also cranked out "Another Hit And Run", "High 'n' Dry (Saturday Night), "Bringin' On The Heartbreak/Switch 625".

"Foolin" went over well live, a lot better than people give it credit for. Although it has a slightly different sound live, the high energy song had much of the crowd pumping their fists and singing along. "Too Late For Love" sounded absolutely amazing, and had a some people raising their lighters to the sky. (Those people were few and far between though.) There was no denying how *great* the song sounded though.

From X, "You're So Beautiful" was the first to be played. Again, it sounded excellent, and had people at least bobbing their heads. "Hysteria", "Long Long Way To Go", and "Four Letter Word" had some of the lazier folks in the crowd sitting. Joe noted that it was time to tone it down a bit for a while. I was a bit dissapointed to see that many people were still sitting for "Four Letter Word". When "Promises" started up, I was VERY impressed with the way it went over. Everyone jumped up and started singing again. I had NO idea Euphoria was that big here. "Now" sounded excellent, "Women" and an extended version of one of my all time favorites, "Rocket", were played. "Photograph" sounded a lot better live than I expected, and the live, more upbeat version definitely went over well with the crowd.

Then the peak of the show came. "Animal" started up and it seemed like everyone was dancing. Even a short, overweight woman in her late 40's was going nuts clapping and shifting back and forth! Animal was followed by a barrage of greatest hits, "Armageddon It", "Pour Some Sugar On Me", and "Rock Of Ages" had EVERYONE standing, singing, and dancing. For an encore, we were treated with "Love Bites" and another high energy Leppard song, "Let's Get Rocked"

For the record, rock WASN'T out of the question on this night. Def Leppard delivered a high energy rock concert to the Petersen's Events Center that had everyone on a natural high. Def Leppard did NOT disappoint.

A great show! I liked so much of the set list. Well, they could have played "Ring of Fire" too. I love 'Bringin' on the Heartbreak' and 'Love Bites' with Viv's solos. I would like to see more "X" songs. But, I liked "4LW' & 'LLWTG'... As I said before I would like to see "Scar", "Girl like you"... I know it is not easy to play when you have a lot of great HITS. They still are the best of the World!.
