Cleveland, OH, USA - Fan Reviews

Fan Review - By ojmccaf1981

The Def Leppard show in Cleveland was one of the most energetic and awesome rock shows that I ever seen in my life!!! Def Leppard was in top form and they showed that after 23 some years these UK boys still know how to rock!

They did all the Def Leppard classics that the fans wanted to hear Bringin' On The Heartbreak, Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop), Two Steps Behind (with a little bit of Cleveland Rocks in the beginning) Hysteria, Pour Some Sugar On Me, Rock of Ages!!

It was definitely one great rock show!! The opening act Ricky Warwick was phenomenal with only his guitar, and a guest appearance from Vivian Campbell of Def Leppard!! All in all one helluva show!!!.

WOO HOO!!! The Cleveland show was positively awesome!!! As soon as we all realized they were coming on stage, not one person was in their seat!! Everyone stood for the entire set list!! I didn't remember to bring anything to write down the set list, but the guys were onstage for 2 hours!!! EGADS!!! They all looked great, sang like you wouldn't believe!! The best one, I thought, was 'Rocket', which had to have been nearly 10 minutes long. Rick Allen was just simply brilliant, as always. And, honestly, the record company is making a HUGE mistake not releasing 'Long Long Way To Go' here in the States. It was FABULOUS live!! They sang a lot of Hysteria, I believe 4 from "X", and some of the older ones.

For the encore, they came out and did 'Love Bites', and then 'Let's Get Rocked', which omg, was awesome, too!! I hope for everyone's sake they get to go to a show, because they won't know what they would be missing. I wish I had the capacity to go to more shows around this area, but I can't.

The "high" we were on when we left was incredible. There were a lot of people still yelling as we were leaving the building, and even getting out of the parking deck, we were all jamming to the music in the car. Who can get enough, really? Guys, if you see this, you are awesome!! To know what kind of effect you have on your fans must be exhilarating!!!Love ya all!!!

P.S. Ricky Warwick was amazing!! This man is going places!! He has a beautiful voice, and it shouldn't be long before he hits it big!!!!.

What can I say? Def Leppard put on another awesome show at Cleveland's Gund Arena. After being hassled by arena security and almost missing Ricky's set we got to our seats. We'd been there maybe 2 minutes when Malvin came on stage dancing and acting silly to introduce Ricky. For anyone who's disappointed at the Leps choice of an opening act, please don't be. Ricky is very talented. I can't wait to get his CD. He's also a really nice guy. We met him briefly in the hotel lobby on his way to sound check and he seemed happy to take a moment for a chat and a couple of pictures.

After Ricky's set and a brief break, Def Leppard took the stage with little fan fare to the 'Disintegrate' intro and went right into 'Let It Go'. The crowd was on its feet but from where we were in the second row, directly in front of Joe, it didn't seem like there was much energy. Joe tried his best, even doing Ian Hunter's 'Cleveland Rocks' about halfway through the set to get the crowd into it but he finally just kind of rolled his eyes at Vivian and gave up. That's not to say that the band didn't put on a great show. As always it was awesome. The problem seemed to be with the crowd itself.

They played all the old favorites, including the famous acoustic version of 'Two Steps Behind', which I'd heard they hadn't been doing, as well as the cuts from the new CD that have been standard this tour. There also seemed to be quite a few technical problems as Joe left the stage several times and Phil changed guitars nearly every other song. I also noticed a lot of feedback during 'Long Long Way to Go'.

On a personal note, as I stated before we'd bumped into the guys on their way to sound check and at different times during the show we got a wave from each one of them which was cool. I'd never had anything like that happen before and it's definitely a memory I'll cherish forever.

All in all I'd have to say the show was great but the crowd was really disappointing. As usual the band ended with 'Rock Of Ages', took their bows and left the stage, returning a few moments later for an encore of 'Love Bites' and 'Let's Get Rocked'.

Great show, my first ever seeing Def Lep. I grew up on their music and was surprised I knew as many lyrics as I did. They kicked it off with 'Let It Go' and 'Rock! Rock! (Till you Drop)'. What a roaring way to start it off, old school.

I noticed 'F-f-f-Foolin' was played in several other dates, but it wasn't played tonight. Sorry I missed that classic. "High and Dry" wasn't played, either, but 'Let It Go' more than made up for it. Closing with 'Love Bites' and 'Let's Get Rocked' was also awesome.

All in all, a great show that I'll be remembering for a long time and reminiscing about tonight and all day tomorrow.

This is my third Def Leppard show (I watched the Slang and Euphoria shows too). I got a good seat this time, like I did back in Slang tour. That helped me enjoy the concert. The opening act, Ricky Warwick, he's OK I guess. Nothing to scream about but he's alright. Viv came during his penultimate song and contributed some licks.

I was hoping to get the HnD show since the first two shows had HnD, but when they played 'Rock Rock' after 'Let It Go', I knew I was getting the other setlist. No Ring Of Fire to open. Bummer. But that's probably my only minor complaint of the show.

Now I think I know why I always feel that Def Leppard concerts are kinda short: they tend to speed up the tempo of the songs. Which is always good. The lads seemed to enjoy themselves; they totally rocked out on stage. It was loud - sometimes I feel the guitars overshadowed the vocals but I could see that Joe was trying his best to scream his butt off, most notably in 'Photograph'.

The new songs were quite well received, except maybe 'Long Long Way To Go'. I don't know why, maybe the guys need to make it acoustic. 'You're So Beautiful' and 'Four Letter Word' got decent applause and when Joe announced 'Now', it seemed that the majority of the people knew the song and rocked out. 'Promises' was surprisingly very well received. People went bonkers for that one, like they did during 'Animal', 'Pour Some Sugar On Me' and 'Let's Get Rocked'.

The best part of the show is when Joe played 'Cleveland Rocks' acoustically before going to 'Two Steps Behind'.

'Rocket' was another highlight especially during the duelling guitar solo. After that song, you know the hits were coming and the place went nuts. Same two encores: 'Love Bites' and 'Let's Get Rocked'. Too bad it was not sold out. I would say Gund Arena was probably only half full. My rating for this show: 9/10.
