The venue is located on Jones Beach island which is 11 miles south of Wantagh which is a hamlet on Long Island.

It was opened in June 1952 as New Jones Beach Mar9ne Stadium.

From 1954 to 1994 it was known as Jones Beach Marine Theater.

From 1994 to 2000 it was known as Jones Beach Amphitheater.

From 2000 to 2002 it was known as Jones Beach Theater.

From 2002 to 2006 it was known as Tommy Hilfiger at Jones Beach Theatre.

From 2006 to 2016 it was known as Nikon at Jones Beach Theater.

Since 2016 it has become known as simply Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater.

Joe Elliott's hero Ian Hunter joined the band to sing lead vocals on Mott The Hoople classic 'All The Young Dudes'.

He also did this in Middletown NY during the Slang tour in July 1996 as he lives in the local area.

The 1996 appearance was recorded and mixed by Joe and released in 2000 on Ian's 'Once Bitten Twice Shy' compilation album.

A decent quality audience recording exists from this show.
