La Crosse, WI - Media Reviews

Media Review - Def Leppard @ La Crosse By Blas Perez

Def Leppard is one of those legendary hair bands that just won't go away. But unlike the other groups still hanging around and putting out washed up rock and roll albums, Def Leppard still knows how to rock. These guys have been around the block more than a few times, hitting their share of some pretty major speed bumps on their way and still managing to put together solid material and sell out their shows. This is a testament to the quality, catchy tunes they seem to have a never-ending supply of. The La Crosse, Wisconsin show on February 2 saw the guys at their best. They made sure there was something for everyone by mixing in the old staples like Photograph and Hysteria with the new era Def Lep like Paper Sun and Promises.

They may not be as crazy and obnoxious as they used to be but the energy of their show hasn't lost a step. Because La Crosse is a smaller, somewhat conservative city, many bands pass up the chance to play here. The lack of quality rock shows has produced a general lack of interest among the residents of this area. Because of this, there aren't many bands that can sell out the La Crosse Center. Def Leppard came very close.

Some of the newer, big shot bands with oversized egos should take note of the example Def Leppard has set. They've proved that hard work and perseverance can go a long way in the rock world. And maybe these newer, big shot bands with oversized egos will realize that La Crosse isn't such a bad place to play after all. If they still don't feel that we're worth their time we'll take Def Leppard back any day.
