  • Location / Sheffield, England
  • Venue / Sheffield Arena

The first show by the band in this city since September 1987 on the Hysteria tour.

The first time at this venue and first of two nights here.

The venue is located to the North of the city centre and not far from where the Don Valley Stadium used to be.

It was opened in May 1991 as Sheffield Arena by Queen Elizabeth II and first played the same day by Paul Simon.

From 2003 to 2007 it was known as Hallam FM Arena.

From 2007 to 2010 and 2015 to 2017 it reverted to Sheffield Arena.

From 2010 to 2015 it was called Motorpoint Arena Sheffield before its current name of FlyDSA Arena since 2017.

The first ever English In The Round show and first arena show by the band in Sheffield.

Joe was interviewed live on local TV backstage one hour before the show and talked about the bands first show at the City Hall in 1987 which suffered technical problems.

This second night was added on after announcing the initial tour dates. In a Leppard-like twist of fate this show also suffered from technical problems.

The first problem was during 'Hysteria' when the sound cut out and had to be restored - just before Joe was asking for an acoustic guitar. 'Love Bites' was cut from the show.

They carried on with the set until after BOTH when Joe played the new acoustic song 'From The Inside' by himself on acoustic guitar.

The first ever playing of this song, unreleased at the time.

OAnd the only ever playing in the UK/Ireland.

It had only previously been heard in the UK on the Channel 4 TV show "Friday At The Dome" in June 1991.

Where Joe sang it accompanied by Liam from the Hothouse Flowers (see 'Visualize'). Also the first sighting of anyone from the band in the UK since Steve's death.

Trivia - The presenter of this show was Craig Ferguson before he moved to the USA.

'Rock Of Ages' was played as the regular version and for the first half of the song Rick's snare drum sound was not working. It only kicked in during the guitar solo.

A decent quality audience recording exists from this show.
