  • Location / London, England
  • Venue / Earls Court Arena @ Earls Court Olympia

The first show by the band in this city since April 1992 at the Freddie Mercury Tribute and first full show in April 1988.

The first time at this venue and first of two nights here.

The venue was located in the Earls Court area of London and part of the old Earls Court Olympia exhibition complex.

It was opened in September 1937.

The venue was a few streets away from Chelsea football club's Stamford Bridge stadium and also Steve Clark's last home in Old Church Street.

The venue was called Earls Court Arena or Earls Court Olympia as well as Earls Court One.

The first time the band played at the largest indoor arena in the UK.

The show was attended by Brian May and John Deacon of Queen. The band received a Silver Clef Award for Outstanding Contribution to British Music earlier in the day.

The Nordoff Robbins sponsored Silver Clef Awards were held in the afternoon with Elton John giving 10 minute introduction speech before presenting the band with their awards.

The arena and exhibition centre was closed in December 2014 having opened in September 1937.

Demolition work began after this and has now been completed to make way for luxury flats and apartment buildings.

The entrance to the arena can be seen below.

The house where Phil Collen first joined the band in July 1982 is located only a few minutes away in Warwick Gardens.

The same setlist was played as at the second show in Sheffield.

A decent quality audience recording exists from this show.
