Kansas City/Bonner Springs, KS - Media Reviews

Def Leppard @ Sandstone Amphitheater By Kansas City Star

They couldn't blow the roof off a place that does not have one, so they tried to knock the stars from the sky.

Def Leppard sent its power chords shrieking towards the heaven's Tuesday night in a nearly flawless performance for a sellout crowd.

This British band is not just another cliche-ridden heavy metal act.

Its set Tuesday was a showcase for some very hard but very entertaining rock 'b' roll, more original than the tired guitar-lashing served up by most of their contemporaries.

And the five young men who make up this band just happen to be superb musicians.

Something else happens when Def Leppard takes a stage.

There is an undertone of determination here, of a refusal to give up or give in.

Perhaps that is due to the misfortunes the band has endured and overcome.
