Grand Rapids, MI - Media Reviews

Ozzy Osbourne/Def Leppard @ Welsh Auditorium By Grand Rapids Press

If Sunday's audience seemed in top form for the Blizzard Of Ozz, it was because the crowd had been primed by the appearance of Def leppard, five guys who might become rock heavyweights one day if they don't burn themselves out first.

The oldest member of the group is only 22, but Def Leppard knows how to rock with the best of them.

Lead singer, Joe Elliott, the eldest, worked the crowd for all it was worth.

In fact, Elliott showed more stage savvy than did the concert headliner.

He perfectly orchestrated the band's material, waving the microphone stand in the air like a baton.

Def Leppard puts a premium on robust riffs and charging choruses.

'Let It Go' was a kick-in-the-pants rocker.

'It Could Be You' sharpened the group's attack and 'Wasted' an instant teenage anthem, sparkled with boyish enthusiasm which was sadly lacking from Osbourne's performance.
